Boy, Do We Have Problems Up Here...

I am sure you have all read the tragic news that Ben Affleck has officially dropped from The Batman, he will still be playing Batman (as far as we know), but he has stepped down form directorial duties. A tragic day for all nerds wanting a Batman movie soon and movie buffs excited to see Ben Affleck to flex his "Directorial muscles" in this big budget flick. As disappointed as I may be, fear not, this may be a blessing in disguise regarding the quality of this upcoming movie.

Here is the quote by Ben Affleck’s explaining his decision

There are certain characters who hold a special place in the hearts of millions,” Affleck said in a statement. “Performing this role demands focus, passion and the very best performance I can give. It has become clear that I cannot do both jobs to the level they require. Together with the studio, I have decided to find a partner in a director who will collaborate with me on this massive film. I am still in this, and we are making it, but we are currently looking for a director. I remain extremely committed to this project, and look forward to bringing this to life for fans around the world.”

Ben Affleck directing this has always been kind of asking too much in my opinion, this was a triple threat of immense magnitude and pressure, to write a movie is one thing, but also to star in and direct it, just wow! Was this man going to get any sleep for the next couple of years? We all want the best quality movie we can get and it is important not to be spread too thin, especially with a franchise such as this.  If Ben Affleck feels that he cannot juggle all three together, it is good to know his ego will not destroy a beloved character.

Here are my top four choices to replace him:

1.) Matt Reeves

After his breakout movie Cloverfield Matt Reeves stepped up and told a very powerful and emotional story in Dawn Of the Planet of the Apes. It was a fantastic movie with a lot of heart that surprised everyone and become one of the biggest movies of 2014. The sequel is coming out this July and a lot is to be expected. Maybe this is the right man to steer the ship and help Ben Affleck make a great movie.

2.) Alfonso Cuaron

It is without a doubt that The Prisoner of Azkaban is the best Harry Potter movie in the entire saga.  With movies like Gravity and Children of Men it is a surprise he has not worked on many other big budget movies to strut his stuff and I believe he could bring something new and refreshing to the DC Cinematic Universe. Gravity and Children of Men were big hits and this is a director who I personally would like to see more of.

3.) Sam Mendes

If you have seen Skyfall then you are already excited thinking about this.  This beautifully slick movie showed the best of Bond while having one of the best villains in any movie that I have seen in a while. Batman is only as cool as his villains and with such a fantastic roster you want someone who will give them the proper diligence and respect to make them resonate with the audience.

4.) Zack Snyder

Just throwing this in there, you know exactly why!
