BUSY WEEK MOVIE FANS!
Ghost in the Shell
First up is the live-action remake of Ghost in the Shell. It follows the story of Major, played by Scarlett Johansson, who half human/half robot. As she continues to battle some of the worst criminals on the planet, she realizes that there might be more to her past than she thought. Even though this film didn’t do well at the box office and wasn’t well received by critics, it definitely has an audience. If the story isn’t enough to hook you, then you’re in for a visual treat because there’s no denying that this is one of the more gorgeous looking films to come out this year. Also… WHEN THE HECK ARE THEY GOING TO FINALLY RELEASE THE SCORE FOR THIS FILM?!
The Boss Baby
Up next is DreamWorks’s latest animated feature, The Boss Baby. It follows a young boy named Tim whose parents adopt a young baby that ends up being a spy. This movie is ridiculous. The concept is ridiculous and it’s something that never should’ve worked. Yet it was a massive box office success and there’s already a sequel being written as I type this out.
Gifted
Next up is a smaller indie film that was released earlier in the year called Gifted. It stars Chris Evans, Jenny Slate, Octavia Spencer, and newcomer McKenna Grace. The movie follows a man named Frank Adler (Chris Evans) and his gifted niece, Mary (McKenna Grace). Once Mary’s talents catch the attention of her grandmother, a huge custody battle ensues between her and Frank. This is by far my favorite movie being released this week and it is definitely worth your time.
Batman: Mask of the Phantasm
Last but certainly not least is the long-awaited release of Batman: Mask of the Phantasm. Coming out in 1993, this animated feature follows Batman in a movie where he is wrongly accused of a series of crimes being committed by another mysterious figure. Personally, I have never seen any of the animated Batman films before, but I am eager to catch this one because of all the praise it receives.
