BREAKING: Legendary Filmmaker, George Romero Has Passed Away

Iconic filmmaker, George Romero passed away today at the age of 77 due to lung cancer. Not only is Romero responsible for revolutionizing the horror genre, but his work has also influenced and inspired numerous filmmakers and content creators around the world.

Nicknamed “The Godfather of the Dead,” Romero revamped the zombie genre in the late 60’s with his film, The Night of the Living Dead.  Working with only a $114,000 budget, the film went on to make $30 million at the box office and from there, the rest is history.

Many filmmakers have tried to recreate and have actually remade some of Romero’s films such as Zack Snyder and Breck Eisner. Snyder’s Dawn of the Dead remake was actually his directorial debut and is what launched his career.

Tre’vell Anderson from the LA Times reported that Romero passed away, surrounded by family while listening to The Quiet Man (1952) score, which was apparently his favorite piece of all time.
