The third instalment in the ‘Kingsmen’ franchise, 'The King’s Man,’ has pushed back their release date, according to Variety.

The prequel film was originally coming to theaters Sept. 18, 2020 but has now been pushed to Feb. 26, 2021. With less than three weeks until the original release, this might be the closest a 2020 movie has come to actually hitting theaters before deciding to move at the last minute.

Like other tentpoles from the film’s distributer, Disney had previously rescheduled ‘The King’s Man’ debut since they acquired the film in the 20th Century Fox merger and after the realities of social distancing in a Covid-19 world set in. ‘The New Mutants,’ another Fox property Disney inherited, has notoriously changed their date many times but is finally hitting the big screen tomorrow (Fri. Aug 28) in regions that have reopened cinemas. However, the Disney produced ‘Mulan’ will forego the theatrical window entirely and will be available Sept. 4 through their streaming service, Disney Plus, at an additional cost.

Announced alongside the ‘King’s Man’ news, Disney also rescheduled the release of Chloé Zhao’sNomadland’ to Dec. 4, 2020. Pixar’sLuca’ shuffled to June 18, 2021 as well.

Matthew Vaughn returns to helm ‘The King’s Man’ with a screenplay by him and Karl Gajdusek. The first Kingsmen film grossed $414 million at the global box office and the sequel ‘Kingsmen: The Golden Circle’ made an equally impressive $410 million.

‘The King’s Man’ will star Ralph Fiennes, Djimon Hounsou, Gemma Arterton and Daniel Brühl and will be set roughly a century before 2014’s ‘Kingsmen.’
