Kevin Hart Inks Multi-Movie Deal With Netflix
The Hollywood Reporter has first reported that the red-hot comedian will be signing a four film deal with the streaming giant in which he will act and produce in each project. Hart will also enter into a first-look deal with Netflix through his production company HeartBeat Productions.
No terms have been released over how much the deal is worth but it is expected to be in the same vein as Netflix’s long standing exclusivity deal with fellow A-list comedian Adam Sandler, whose partnership with the streamer since 2015 has yielded six movies that have been among the most viewed on the platform. Much like Sandler, Hart has a big and loyal audience who should follow him to Netflix and whatever projects he does. He commented on the deal in this statement
“Partnering with Netflix is an amazing opportunity for HartBeat and myself. I am excited to act in and produce cutting edge films with Netflix. I am extremely grateful to Ted Sarandos and Scott Stuber, we share the same creative vision and always put the audience first. This business is about growth and my HartBeat team continues to exceed my expectations with their ability to develop stories and relationships. Our goal is to make the HartBeat name synonymous with first class entertainment and narratives.”
After years of cutting his teeth in the stand-up world and gaining a loyal following, Hart graduated from small supporting roles to leading man status with films like “Think Like A Man” “Ride Along” “Central Intelligence” “Night School” and the “Jumanji” franchise. He will next star in two films for Sony, the dramedy “Fatherhood” and the action-comedy “The Man from Toronto”.
As for Netflix, this is another big get as they further build themselves against streaming competition. They have a solid track record with successful comedies as the Sandler pact and movies from Eddie Murphy and Will Ferrell. Snagging Hart while his career is on hyperdrive just furthers their commitment to star driven laugh fests that hold and gain subscribers.
