Tom Hanks to Appear in Wes Anderson's Next Project
Wes Anderson’s “The French Dispatch” may still be three months away from release but the acclaimed director is already at work on his follow up feature and has landed another Hollywood legend.
Reports have indicated that Wes Anderson is casting none other than Tom Hanks in an undisclosed role for his untitled feature that is soon to commence shooting in Spain. Hanks joins a cast that is filled with many Anderson regulars including Adrien Brody, Tilda Swinton and Bill Murray. You can probably expect more A-listers to fill up the remaining roles soon based on the filmmaker’s track record.
Anderson is keeping the plot of this one under wraps but landing a Hollywood legend like Hanks is a big get for him. We don’t have any details on what role the actor will play but sources state it may be a small cameo like role. While that may be a disappointment to some people hoping to see Hanks take on a larger role in his first collaboration with Anderson, this news should nevertheless be very exciting.
Throughout his career, Hanks has worked with several top directors that have earned critical and box office success including his numerous team ups with Steven Spielberg, Robert Zemeckis, Ron Howard to more quirky auteurs like The Coen Brothers and Marielle Heller. His upcoming features seem to be a mix of that as along with this project, he will be playing Geppetto in the Zemeckis directed Disney live action version of “Pinocchio” while also portraying Colonel Tom Parker in Baz Luhrmann’s biopic “Elvis”.
Anderson, known for making quirky comedies filled with eccentric characters and a unique visual style, recently premiered his latest picture “The French Dispatch” at the Cannes Film Festival. The film, which features an impressive cast consisting of Benicio Del Toro, Frances McDormand, Timothee Chalamet as well as Murray, Brody and Swinton, has received very positive reviews from critics and is considered an award frontrunner. It will finally be released to the public on October 22.
The pairing of Hanks and Anderson should be appealing to any film buff. These are two beloved artists who have time and time again been rewarded for both being likeable individuals that are known for quality movies that appeal to a mostly broad audience and even though we know nothing about this project yet, it promises to be something very special. Even if Hanks is not in it for very long, you can rest assured he will bring his all to whatever he will play that will lead to something memorable.
