James Cameron Invites Audiences Back Into the World of Pandora With The Latest Trailer for Avatar: The Way of Water

Most film enthusiasts and audience members tend to ask themselves one collective question, what has James Cameron been up to these days? The brand new trailer for his highly anticipated sequel, Avatar: The Way of the Water should answer that question. The stellar visual feast proves Cameron has been hard at work returning to the world of Pandora.

Since the release of 2009’s box-office smash hit, Avatar, the Canadian filmmaker has been hard at work on four sequels to the science fiction epic, yes you heard correctly, four movies. Cameron has gone on record about the Avatar story not being finished and would like for the franchise to be “a saga”. And with the recent re-release doing relatively well at the box office, Cameron has finally unveiled what he has been up to for the past 13 years.

The development of Avatar: The Way of Water is a tale as old as time, with reports of Cameron’s precision to practicality from the actors and including Cameron creating new technology to fully immerse audiences into the world of Pandora. The sequel stars Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, and Stephan Lang and tells the story of Jake Sully’s family after his body was transmuted from a human into a N’avi from the first film. From the trailer alone, Cameron’s use of his $250 million dollar budget speaks for itself with stunning visuals and impressive camera work, especially with the underwater sequences. From the looks of this trailer, this seems to be more family-oriented while also reflecting on the first film’s struggle for survival as the N’avi are at war with human life forms once again.

With a three-hour and 10-minute runtime, it seemingly shows no signs of James Cameron losing his mark on pioneering blockbuster filmmaking, nearly dominating the phrase “cinema of immersion” with The Way of Water.
