Original Cast of ‘Teen Wolf’ to Reunite for Paramount+ Movie
The gang from Beacon Hills is coming together for a Paramount+ Original Film
Paramount’s streaming service, MTV Entertainment Studios and Orion Television have officially announced that the upcoming movie based on the hit horror series ‘Teen Wolf’ will reunite the original cast including Tyler Posey, Holland Roden, Shelley Hennig and more. This new film will also segue into a brand new series for Paramount+ entitled ‘Wolf Pack’, created by the original series’ showrunner Jeff Davis, who is also writing the upcoming film. A director has yet to be announced.
Teen Wolf was a supernatural drama series loosely adapted from the horror comedy film from 1985 starring Michael J Fox. While that movie was a cheesy but still entertaining horror comedy, this series was more in line with something like ‘Supernatural’ by being a dark horror themed series with attractive leads, serialized storytelling yet still having sense of fun to it. It centred on Posey’s character Scott McCall, a high school student in the small California town of Beacon Falls, who after being bit by a werewolf, becomes one himself. Although still human, Scott begins to develop wolf like attributes forcing him to balance his double life and keep his hometown safe. Premiering on MTV in 2011, the series was an immediate hit with teens and young adults and although not a favourite with critics, it ran for 100 episodes and six seasons which concluded in 2017.
In this new film, Scott is still an alpha wolf in Beacon Hills and with the rise of the full moon, a new evil has entered his life. Faced with battling demons, lycanthropes and many other creatures, he must reunite with his old friends and unite with new allies to fight the biggest battle that they have ever faced.
The Teen Wolf movie is just one of the many examples of the sort of IP Paramount is looking to mine for its growing service. Much like ‘Spongebob Squarepants’, ‘Star Trek’ and the numerous Taylor Sheridan shows in production, this is a series that has a devout and loyal following who will no doubt be excited for this feature length instalment that shows where the characters are now. Paramount truly believes that this IP will help them standout in the crowded streaming space, especially with the lucrative teen and young adult demographic. If the show’s success is any indication, the company should be satisfied with the potential outcome.
