Will Smith Faces More Heat From the Academy After the Infamous Slap
An Investigation by The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences began almost immediately following the incident at this year’s ceremony.
One of the most shocking events that have shaken Hollywood and the entire entertainment industry recently was the infamous slap at the Academy Awards on Sunday night. For those unaware, comedian Chris Rock told a joke about actress Jada Pinkett Smith about her medical condition, alopecia, which causes hair loss.. This enraged Jada’s husband, actor Will Smith, causing him to assault Rock. Immediately following the incident, Smith heckled from the audience spouting profanity after the show continued. Coincidentally, soon after, Smith would go on to win his first Academy Award for “Best Actor in a Leading Role” for his performance in the tennis sports drama, King Richard.
It should be noted, the two stars have recently put forth a public apology to one another. Smith posted a public apology during his acceptance speech, and soon after on social media. It did not take long, however for The Academy’s investigation on the matter to begin, and. It has already been revealed that Smith was asked to leave the show per the Academy’s request, but refused. The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences announced today: “Board of Governors today initiated disciplinary proceedings against Mr. Smith for violations of the Academy's Standards of Conduct, including inappropriate physical contact, abusive or threatening behavior, and compromising the integrity of the Academy.” The Academy then added that Smith could be filed with suspension, expulsion, or other sanctions permitted. Another board meeting about this issue is to take place on April 18th.
Whatever your stance on the matter may be, this has surely been the topic of discussion in regards to violence on television as well as actors and stars publicly stating their opinions on the situation.
