‘Star Wars: Andor’ Series Teased at Star Wars Celebration

Fans from all around the world are gathering in Anaheim, California for the annual STAR WARS CELEBRATION: a days-long event that offers panels, exhibits, a showcase floor, and major announcements for all things Star Wars and Disney. During today’s LucasFilm panel, major details were revealed surrounding the highly-anticipated Star Wars: Andor series.

The series is set as a prequel to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which itself was a prequel to the original 1977 film, STAR WARS: EPISODE IV - A NEW HOPE. Tony Gilroy, who wrote the screenplay for ROGUE ONE, created the new series and was on stage to present at the panel. It was revealed that the series will debut on Disney+ this summer. Star Diego Luna was also present for the panel and teased that fans will be experiencing a different version of his character, Cassian in the new series. “You’re not going to recognize Cassian at the beginning,” Luna says. “A selfish man waiting for his beginning.” Nicholas Britell, known for projects such as SUCCESSION, MOONLIGHT, and If Beale Street Could Talk will be composing the music for the show. It was also teased that actor Stellan Skarsgard (most recently seen as the villain in Denis Villeneuve’s film DUNE) will play a major role in the series as a rebel leader.

Gilroy shared that the series will be set five years before the film and will be split into multiple seasons at twelve episodes each, with every season leading up to the events of ROGUE ONE. The teaser trailer, seen below, offers fans a glimpse into the grittiness that they came to know and love in the film, while giving the feel of a political thriller topped off with Gilroy’s undeniable signature style.

STAR WARS: ANDOR will be available to stream on Disney+ on August 31st, 2022.
