First Teaser for 'The Thomas Crown Affair' Promises Big Heists and Big Thrills
Fresh off his 2026 Oscar win, the talented Michael B. Jordan offers us his next big project: a remake of the seminal 1968 thriller The Thomas Crown Affair.
‘The Thomas Crown Affair’ was origiinally directed by Norman Jewison and written by Alan R. Trustman in 1968, and follows Thomas Crown, a cunning millionaire played by Steve McQueen, who successfully pulls off a bank heist without doing any of the work himself. However, he is soon investigated by insurance agent Vicki Anderson (Faye Dunaway). As the noose begins to close around Crown, he attempts a second heist while his relationship with Vicki becomes ever more complicated. The film was released in 1968 and was nominated for two Oscars, of which it won for Best Original Song. A remake followed in 1999, directed by Die Hard filmmaker John McTiernan and starring Pierce Brosnan and Rene Russo as Thomas Crown and Vicki Anderson, respectively.
The short teaser trailer for this new iteration opens with shots of Michael B. Jordan as Thomas Crown, showcasing his opulent and rich lifestyle. As Crown monologues about his life and crimes (he specifically talks about how easy his heist of a famous painting was), we start to get short glimpses of Adria Arjona as Vicki watching the billionaire from afar. As the trailer begins to take on a more action-oriented approach with fast cars, boats and a punch-up, we see Crown and Vicki get romantically closer. The trailer ends on a look at Kenneth Branagh before Jordan does some romantic cliff jumping with Adria Arjona.
This new take on the world of Thomas Crown is Michael B. Jordan’s sophomore effort as a director, his second after 2023’s acclaimed Creed III, the threequel to his series of Rocky spinoffs. Creed III was noted especially for Jordan’s eye as a director, taking inspiration from anime in his shot compositions, especially during the final boxing match. Even before his directorial debut, however, Jordan has been pursuing a new take on The Thomas Crown Affair. He first pitched the film in 2016 after the release of the original Creed and has pursued it ever since. The new take first came to life when noted Marvel directors Joe and Anthony Russo attached; however, it was later announced that Amazon would reboot the franchise following their acquisition of MGM. The new embarked of The Thomas Crown Affair would subsequently be announced in 2024, with principal production taking place in July 2025 in England.
While this new outing for Jordan as a director doesn’t arrive until next March, this first look at The Thomas Crown Affair is a tantalizing glimpse at his latest effort in the big chair. And if his last film is anything to go off of, then this new film is sure to be a great experience for audiences come Springtime.
