Marvel Studios released the first official look at the upcoming “Ms. Marvel” Disney+ series during the Disney Investor Day 2020 virtual panel.

The featurette gave us a good look both behind the scenes and in front of the camera on the set of “Ms. Marvel” for Disney+. The series creator and executive producer Bisha K. Ali introduced the show and the main character of Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel as relatable, full of heart, and focusing on the struggles of being a teenager.

In this first look, we see Iman Vellani as the titular hero and even a glimpse at her first attempt at a costume. The series follows Kamala Khan, a young Pakistani immigrant living in New Jersey who idolizes the Avengers, and more specifically Captain Marvel. She then develops shapeshifting abilities after exposure to terragin crystals that unlock her powers. Kamala is then thrust into the roles and responsibilities of being a superhero.

Marvel fans will recognize that Kamala Khan featured prominently in the “Marvel’s The Avengers” video game from earlier this year. Now, the character will be given the live-action treatment first on the small screen and then, as was announced later in the panel, on the big screen opposite Brie Larson in “Captain Marvel 2.”

Above all, Ali and executive producers Kevin Feige and Jenna Berger, among others, stressed how everyone will be able to see something of themselves inside Kamala’s character and her experiences, as she navigates relationships, the human condition, and growing pains.

Kamala’s story will be told through a diverse range of filmmakers and producers, including Adil El Arbi, Bilall Fallah, Sana Amanat, and more.

“Ms. Marvel” will prospectively release in late 2021. Check out the first look below:
