First Trailer for 'What If...?' Debuts Jaw-Dropping Animation From Marvel Studios
Marvel Studios released the first trailer for their upcoming animated anthology series “What If…?” during the Disney Investor Day 2020 virtual panel.
The series will feature a new “What If” scenario in each episode that will explore an alternative take on a familiar MCU movie or character. Jeffrey Wright will voice Uatu the Watcher and act as the narrator for the series, as he was for this trailer. The show will feature the return of an entire ensemble MCU cast reprising their roles as voices of their animated characters, from Chris Evans as Steve Rogers/Captain America to Chris Sullivan as Taserface from “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.”
The trailer shows several of the alternative scenarios we can look forward to seeing upon release. One of the more prominent ones follows a “What If” scenario where Peggy Carter receives the Super-Soldier Serum during Project Rebirth and becomes her own version of Captain Britain, while skinny Steve Rogers continues to fight alongside her in a primitive 1940s steampunk proto-Iron Man suit developed by Howard Stark.
Another feature of note is a scenario in which T’Challa is abducted by the Ravagers to join their space adventures instead of Peter Quill seeing the King of Wakanda become Star-Lord and the leader of the Guardians of the Galaxy. This episode will feature the last official performance of the late Chadwick Boseman as T’Challa.
One of the more interesting features will be an adaption of the iconic “Marvel Zombies” comic run where fans will see their favorite characters, both heroes and villains alike, turn into zombies after the outbreak of a terrible virus. It appears Bucky Barnes, may be the lone prevailer fighting off a swarm of his undead allies.
Season 1 of “What If…?” is expected to release mid-year 2021 and will consist of 10 episodes. Check out the full trailer below:
