Deadline reports that Nickelodeon is developing a “SpongeBob SquarePants” spinoff series starring Bill Fagerbakke as Patrick Star.

The working title for the show is “The Patrick Star Show” and will feature Patrick acting as a late-night talk show host interviewing various SpongeBob characters that we have seen and loved throughout the years, as well as new and originals ones. Patrick’s family is also expected to be part of the supporting cast for the series. The show is expected to be a CBS All Access exclusive.

Earlier last year, Nickelodeon CEO Brian Robbins declared the studio’s intentions to develop different spinoff projects from “SpongeBob SquarePants.” This announcement came with the initial unveiling of the first spinoff project “Kamp Koral”, which will premiere next year as a 13-episode CBS All Access original prequel series following our beloved nautical characters as children attending a summer camp in Bikini Bottom.

Bill Fagerbakke will return to voice Patrick Star, a role he has played since the “SpongeBob SquarePants” pilot episode over 20 years ago.

Since its premiere in 1999, “SpongeBob SquarePants” has consistently been touted as the number-one children’s animated series on television. It has premiered 262 episodes in 12 seasons to date, and has spawned a wide array of video games, merchandise, a Tony-winning Broadway musical, and even two hit theatrically-released movies.

A third theatrical film,“The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run,” was originally set to release on May 22nd of this year, before being delayed by the pandemic. It will now hit theaters on August 14th in Canada, and release on VOD and as a feature on CBS All Access in early 2021 for the United States.

No release date has been scheduled for “The Patrick Star Show”, but it will likely premiere around Fall 2021.
