Jensen Ackles Joins 'The Boys' Season 3
According to Variety, Jensen Ackles, star of CW’s Supernatural, is joining the cast of The Boys’ third season. This will re-team Ackles and creator of both of the CW and Amazon shows, Eric Kripke. Ackles will be playing Soldier Boy as confirmed by an Instagram video in which he coyly holds a copy of the graphic novel and looks into the camera as "Soldier Boy” by Elvis Presley plays. Elvis Presley playing while Jensen Ackles stares mysteriously into camera…they knew how to get us on board!
Soldier Boy is a character in “The Boys” comics that is a sort of parody of Captain America and was the series’ first superhero. He first appears in Issue 7 of the graphic novel and led a group of heroes in the 1940s called “Payback.” The graphic novel was written by Garth Ennis and co-created and illustrated by Darick Robertson; originally published by Wildstorm (DC Comics) and now Dynamite Entertainment.
CW’s Supernatural’s first season debuted September 13, 2005, and after 15 seasons (and a mid-season shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic) the series is returning October 8 for the final episodes of the season. There are 2 episodes left to film so if they can safely complete production, the series finale will air November 19, 2020, with a 2 hour-long special.
In the announcement video from Ackles, his caption reads:
“With only 2 more epic episodes to film...I wasn’t quite sure what life after @supernatural was gonna look like...then it hit me.”
Eric Kripke also jokingly congratulated Ackles on his twitter:
The first season of “The Boys” premiered July 26, 2019, and is available to stream now with an Amazon Prime subscription.
“The Boys” Season 2 is set to air September 4, 2020.
