Will Smith & Kevin Hart To Star in 'Planes, Trains & Automobiles' Remake

Paramount Pictures have tapped Will Smith and Kevin Hart to star in a remake of the 1987 comedy classic, “Planes, Trains & Automobiles, per Deadline. Both of their production companies, Westbrook Studios, and Hartbeat Productions respectively, will produce. Aeysha Carr will be penning the script in her feature-length debut.

Kevin Hart confirmed this news in a loving Instagram post regarding teaming up with Will Smith for the first time:

Written and directed by John Hughes, the original road-trip comedy stars the late, great John Candy and Steve Martin as a classic odd couple that are forced to travel home together for Thanksgiving, enduring hijinks and complications along the way.

It grossed 49.5 million dollars at the box office in 1987 and is considered by many to be a holiday must-watch.

Alongside Smith and Heart, Westbrook Studios’ Head of Motion Pictures and Co-President Jon Mone, as well as Heartbeat’s President of Film and Television Bryan Smiley will be co-producing.

Like the duo before them, Smith and Hart are two comedic stars that both have a lot of box office appeal right now. Albeit, there aren’t any box offices to back that up but hopefully, by the time this is ready to hit screens, theaters will be safe to open.

This is seemingly a perfect fit for the two leads and it will be interesting to see if they pick a newcomer director to helm the project alongside Carr’s script. Carr’s previous writing credits include “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” and “Everybody Hates Chris” as well as executive producing the upcoming Woke streaming on Hulu September 9th, 2020.

The “Planes, Trains & Automobiles” remake starring Smith and Hart currently does not have a release date.
