First ‘Black Adam’ Concept Art Revealed: ‘Black Adam’ DC FanDome Panel Recap
Dwayne Johnson took the centerstage at the “Black Adam” DC FanDome Panel to reveal new and interesting information about his upcoming DCEU film.
Johnson opened up the panel with an animated graphic to narrate the backstory of Black Adam that they will use for the upcoming film. Taking the story back 5,000 years ago, we will see Black Adam as a slave in a mythical Egyptian city who gains his powers from the wizard Shazam and decides to use them for his own personal gain in obliterating his oppressors and freeing his people. After being imprisoned for the next five millennia, we will follow him released and free in the present where he will continue his own selfish pursuit of truth and justice.
The concept art revealed by Johnson promises a more ancient and rugged version of the Shazam suit that we saw in 2019’s “Shazam!” The concept art shows his armor and to be more mythical and mystical and show off his awe-inspiring abilities.
While still in the very early stages of pre-production on the film, Johnson teased that the movie will provide lore in the DCEU “beyond [our] wildest expectations.” Johnson went on to reveal that we will explore Black Adam’s true antihero nature, where he will be “explosive” and “dangerous” yet somehow still “likeable” in his pursuit of noble goals through ruthless tactics. He will show no restraint in his powers when dealing with his enemies, and we will see that super-powered action put to good use in the film.
Johnson brought on his future co-star Noah Centineo, who will be playing Al Rothstein/The Atom Smasher and a member of the Justice Society of America (JSA) who will play a major role in the film. Johnson went on to confirm that the film will feature Atom Smasher, Hawkman, Doctor Fate and Cyclone as main characters and members of the Justice Society who bring Black Adam under their wing, and promises we will see much friction and conflict ensue as Black Adam tries to rear them towards his philosophy of “my way or the highway.”
“Black Adam” was first announced as a film over a decade ago, and Johnson has been cast in the lead role since 2013. Finally, we are able to get a “Black Adam” movie into production to see on the big screen.
“Black Adam” is set to begin filming later this year on time for a December 22, 2021 theatrical release.
