‘Freaky’ Trailer Released: Blumhouse’s Upcoming Slasher-Comedy
Universal Pictures and Blumhouse Productions has released the first trailer for their upcoming slasher-comedy “Freaky” starring Vince Vaughn and Kathryn Newton.
The film follows Millie (played by Newton), a typical high school girl, who finds herself the latest victim of a local serial killer (played by Vaughn). As a result of her encounter, Millie discovers she has swapped bodies with the killer and must convince her friends and family who she really is and stop the killer from continuing his actions in her body within 24 hours or else the swap will be permanent.
“Freaky” is both written and directed by Christopher Landon, best known for being the writer and director of “Happy Death Day” and “Happy Death Day 2U,” which were also distributed by Universal and Blumhouse. As with all Blumhouse titles, Jason Blum will be an executive producer on the film.
Fans of the “Happy Death Day” movies will easily see similar creative parallels between those films and this film, typical of Landon’s directorial style. We get a sense of the same light-hearted fun and jokes with our characters as they navigate a horror movie with some jump scares and gore mixed in there to add to the fun.
This movie was originally marketed as a Blumhouse reboot of “Freaky Friday” with an original title of “Freaky Friday the 13th,” but due to some rights concerns it appears Blumhouse is going their own way with this one as a spiritual reboot of the iconic “Freaky Friday” movies told in the slasher genre.
“Freaky” is set to be the next Blumhouse theatrically-released film, after it announced its plans to release eight of its movies going straight to streaming on Amazon Prime with four films being released this October and four released next spring.
“Freaky” is on track to release in theaters on Friday, November 13th, 2020. Check out the trailer below.
