Jonathan Majors Joins MCU For 'Ant-Man 3'
Jonathan Majors, star of HBO’s ‘Lovecraft Country,’ has landed a lead role in the third installment of Marvel’s ‘Ant-Man’ franchise. According to Deadline, sources say that Majors is expected to be playing the super baddie, Kang The Conqueror. Cue film twitter: “Um, actually…”
Peyton Reed, director of the previous two movies returns to helm and since the sequel title changed it up for ‘Ant-Man & The Wasp,’ the name ‘Ant-Man 3’ is more than likely a placeholder. Ant-Man (Paul Rudd) and The Wasp (Evangeline Lily) and Friends?
Majors also recently starred in the indie darling, ‘The Last Black Man In San Francisco’ directed by Joe Talbot in 2019 where both his performance and the film were hits with critics. Following that he landed the Spike Lee joint, ’Da Five Bloods’ on Netflix this year. It seems only natural with that kind of trajectory the MCU and Kevin Feige would make their offer to come play in the sandbox before the Distinguished Competition.
Kang The Conqueror is a super villain from Marvel Comics who is most often associated with The Fantastic Four. He was introduced by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby as ‘Rama-Tut, The Pharaoh From The Future’ and eventually, through some crazy comic book storytelling, he takes the name of Kang The Conqueror to become a time traveling Avengers level threat.
Reed has already expressed interest in directing a 1960s based Fantastic Four movie and this might be a way for him to backdoor those superheroes into the universe through some quantum physic mumbo jumbo.
The next slated Marvel movie is Black Widow directed by Cate Shortland and starring Scarlett Johansson. The release has already been delayed once from May to November and there is a good chance the November release date will be changed as well as theaters in the U.S. are still not at full capacity.
