‘Borat 2’ CONFIRMED and Filmed by Sacha Baron Cohen

Collider reports that a ‘Borat’ sequel has been officially confirmed by Sacha Baron Cohen, which has already been filmed and screened in Los Angeles.

This report confirms what people have been speculating on social media for the last few months that Baron Cohen has, indeed, filmed a sequel to the 2006 film starring his beloved hit character Borat.

These rumors began circulating on the Internet earlier this year after people reported seeing the actor in his iconic Borat costume travelling around Los Angeles. Now it appears that not only has a Borat sequel been filmed, but it has already been edited and screened for several industry higher-ups.

The original film followed Baron Cohen playing Borat Sagdiyev, a journalist from Kazakhstan who travels to the United States in order to produce a documentary film. The movie is a hybrid of scripted skits and real encounters with Baron Cohen firmly in character, interacting with regular people who themselves were led to believe Borat was a real journalist making a real documentary.

Borat travels from New York City to Los Angeles via an ice cream truck in order to find and court Pamela Anderson with his fictional producer, Azamat Bagatov (played by real-life comedian Ken Davitian). The duo perform many rude and crude skits and hijinks along the way.

This sequel film will reportedly follow Borat in the present believing himself to be a massive celebrity after the financial and critical success of his 2006 film who decides to pretend to be someone else in order to interview more people without being recognized. One source claimed that Borat will actually be pretending to be the actor Sacha Baron Cohen as a disguise to add another layer to the hilarity.

While the original film was directed by Larry Charles and produced by Jay Roach, it is unclear if either individual has returned to direct and produce this film respectively.

The first ‘Borat’ was enormously financially successful and grossed $262 million globally on an $18 million budget, making it one of the highest grossing comedies of all time. The original film was distributed by 20th Century Fox, but since the Disney acquisition it is now unclear which studio will distribute this project and by which means.

There are no confirmed dates of release at this time, however later this fall or early 2021 seems the most likely.
