New ‘The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’ Trailer Doubles Down on the Action and Espionage Excitement

MARVEL STUDIOS’ NEW TRAILER FOR THE UPCOMING DISNEY+ SERIES MIGHT NOT EXACTLY BE A LOADED REVEAL WHEN COMPARED TO THE EARLIER TRAILER FROM DECEMBER, BUT IT STILL PROVIDES A LOT OF EXCITEMENT FOR THE NEXT MCU SERIES AFTER “WANDAVISION”.

Marvel Studios premiered a new two-minute trailer for “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” on Sunday, complementing a shorter spot that ran during the Super Bowl. The upcoming miniseries is the next entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe after the currently-airing “WandaVision”, and features Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) and Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) after the former received the Captain America mantle from Steve Rogers at the end of 2019’s “Avengers: Endgame”. The series is created by Malcolm Spellman, with Spellman serving as head writer and Kari Skogland directing the entire six-episode run.

The new trailer expands on what we were treated to with the “First Look” trailer released in December, with some of the footage from that trailer also re-used. The trailer begins with Wilson and Barnes in an interrogation room, being questioned by a character played by Amy Aquino. Very little time is spent on these scenes, with the trailer instead dropping us right into the action as the titular duo are in a plane, Wilson jumping out in his Falcon suit and leaving Barnes behind. There’s actually a bit of an overarching theme to this trailer that implies a slightly more tense dynamic between the two characters than we were previously privy to.

For the remaining minute-and-a-half, we’re taken through numerous setpieces, including a fight atop tractor-trailers on a highway between our heroes and the Flag-Smashers, a set of anarchist antagonists, as well as the reveal of Sharon Carter (Emily VanCamp)’s return to the MCU. There is a momentary glimpse at U.S. Agent (Wyatt Russell) as well as our first reveal of Wilson testing out Cap’s shield, before the trailer finally reveals the return of Helmut Zemo (Daniel Brühl), last seen at the end of 2016’s “Captain America: Civil War”, including the purple mask that the character is identified with in the comics, something which we had not seen in “Civil War”.

Beyond that, the most exciting things about this new trailer are the incredible highlights we got of the upcoming action sequences, as well as blaring cues from Henry Jackman’s bombastic score. Overall, however, this is probably going to be a more exciting trailer for those who missed the “First Look” trailer two months ago, as this new trailer largely takes what we already knew about the series and ramps it up. Nonetheless, “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” looks to be a bold and unique entry in the MCU, and perhaps even more in line with classic spy cinema and television than “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” was.

“The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” premieres only on Disney+ on March 19th, 2021. Check out the brand new trailer down below. Are you even more excited for the series than you were before? Let us know in the comments down below!
