As if it wasn’t already apparent that the future of DC’s Extended Universe belonged to the Gods, look no further than the ever-growing cast of the forthcoming Black Adam film, as well as the sequel to Shazam!.

According to Variety, Lucy Liu is the latest actress to be beckoned to the latter. The outlet reports that she’ll play the God Kalypso, a secondary villain and sister to Helen Mirren’s previously announced primarily villain Hespera.

In addition to Mirren, Liu joins the star of Steven Spielberg’s upcoming West Side Story remake Rachel Ziegler, as well as Zachary Levi and Asher Angel. They will be reprising their roles as the titular hero and his teenage surrogate respectively.

This will mark Liu’s first big budget franchise film in nearly two decades. Aside from lending her voice to the Kung-Fu Panda series, the last major live action film she starred in was Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill: Vol. 2. In recent years she’s done a lot more work for the small screen, appearing as Watson on CBS’s modern retelling Sherlock Holmes series Elementary. She also starred in the first season of CBS All Access’ anthology series Why Women Kill. Liu originally got her start on the popular legal series Ally McBeal, before eventually starring as one of titular “Angels” in the early 2000’s Charlie’s Angels series.

Shazam! Fury of the Gods is currently slated to be released June 2, 2023.

What do you think of the cast so far though? Stay tuned for more casting announcements soon.
