'Venom: Let There Be Carnage' Teases A Symbiotic Showdown between Historic Foes

First look at the highly anticipated sequel shows that a new symbiote, and fan favorite has come into play.

Sony Pictures released trailer for the upcoming Venom sequel on Monday. It shows Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock living his day to day life in harmony with the venom symbiote while something sinister lurks within the walls of the Ravencroft Institute, an institute for the criminally insane and where we see Woody Harrelson’s character Cletus Kasady. we also see Naomie Harris in the hospital with her rumoured to be playing the character of ‘Shriek’, who is Cletus’ Kasady’s lover in the comic books and has some superhuman powers of her own. Not much else is shown in the trailer that could lead to knowing more about the plot but the two lead characters are sure to have a climactic meeting of the symbiotic minds somewhere throughout the film.

All signs point to venom possibly being integrated into the MCU in the future with Tom Holland's Spiderman with Michael Keaton’s ‘Vulture’ character from ‘Spiderman: Homecoming’ showing up in the upcoming ‘Morbius’ film which is already confirmed to be in the same universe as this Venom franchise. In this trailer, there is even an easter egg that show this could lead in to the MCU spiderman story. In a single frame from the trailer we can clearly see the Daily Bugle on Eddie's laptop. Some think that may lead to believe that Eddy has now started to work for the Daily Bugle in this movie which, in many of the comics, is where he first meets Peter Parker. Also, the Ravencroft institute is in the state of New York in the comics while the Daily Bugle operates out of New York City so this may hint at a change of scenery for Eddie leaving San Francisco behind.

This film also helms the great Andy Serkis' directorial effort. Some may remember Serkis was previously acting in 'Avengers: Age of Ultron' and the more recent 'Black Panther' film as the supervillain 'Klaw' but this is his first time behind the camera in the Marvel universe. He has not had much work as a director, only directing two prior films with one being a 'Jungle Book' live action remake released to Netflix to mixed reviews and the other being a romantic drama called 'Breathe' that had a budget of $15 million but only made $4.9 million at the box office. Serkis and company hope to have a greater success than his previous efforts as the theatre business seem to finally be getting back to normal and hopefully it stays that way.

Venom: Let There Be Carnage’ stars Tom Hardy as Venom and Woody Harrelson as Carnage. Michelle Williams and Reid Scott will be reprising their roles from the previous film and Naomie Harris is rumoured to be playing the villain ‘Shriek’ as we do see her in the trailers emulating the powers that Shriek has such as the ability to manipulate sound. Andy Serkis is the director of the sequel and the screenplay is written by Kelly Marcel who wrote the previous ‘Venom’ film and other films such as ‘Saving Mr. Banks’ and ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’. Marcel also came up with the story with help from the star of the film himself as Tom Hardy will be credited as a writer for the highly anticipated sequel which will be his first writing credit on a movie. There is a lot of hype around this sequel as Sony hopes to deliver a box office hit with the highly anticipated sequel, and everybody is hoping for another great symbiotic showdown!

Venom: Let There Be Carnage is directed by Andy Serkis, and stars Tom Hardy, Woody Harrelson, Michelle Williams,Reid Scott, and Naomie Harris. It is scheduled to release only in theatres on September 24th, 2021.
