Welcome to Starfleet! Here's a First Look at the Upcoming series 'Starfleet Academy'
PARAMOUNT+ has DROPped an exciting and easter-egg filled TEASER TRAILER FOR the new Trek, which debuts early 2026.
Paramount+ today released an electrifying first look teaser trailer for its new original series, ‘Star Trek: Starfleet Academy’. The highly-anticipated first look teaser featured the series’ iconic campus in San Francisco, which is a bit of a return to form. For those unfamiliar with the Star Trek: Discovery canon, this is the first time there have been cadets, and indeed, a real Starfleet for over 150 years. Due to a massive universe wide event, the Federation was decimated, as were all warp-based ships. This academy, and indeed, this show, represents a fresh start when it comes to the future of the Federation.
Also debuting is a new starship, and integral part of the Starfleet Academy campus, the U.S.S. Athena. This is seemingly a training vessel with Academy Award winner Holly Hunter as Nahla Ake, the Chancellor of Starfleet Academy and Captain of the Athena. Ake also happens to be a long-lived half-Lanthanite. Fans were introduced to the Lanthanites, a species indistinguishable from humans when Strange New Worlds introduced Pelia, a Lanthanite engineer.
Hunter isn’t the only iconic cast member for the new show, as there are several returning fan favorites, and absolutely stunning acting talent. Robert Picardo, reprises his iconic role as The Doctor from Voyager, which could be an amazing storyline for another being who has survived to bridge the gap between timelines. Also returning from Discovery is Tig Notaro, reprising her role as Jett Reno and Oded Fehr, reprising his role as Admiral Vance.
Most notably, Academy Award nominee, Paul Giamatti, guest stars as Nus Braka, the season’s antagonist and a man with an ominous past connected to one of the cadets. ‘Starfleet Academy’ introduces audiences to a group of cadets who come together to pursue a common dream of hope and optimism. Under the watchful and demanding eyes of their instructors, they discover what it takes to become Starfleet officers as they navigate blossoming friendships, explosive rivalries, first loves and a new enemy that threatens both the Academy and the Federation itself. To round out the cast, the young talent of the show comes in Sandro Rosta who play Caleb Mir, an orphan with a troubled past who makes for an unlikely Starfleet cadet. Karim Diané is Jay-Den Kraag, a Klingon cadet who dreams of becoming a medical officer. Kerrice Brooks is Series Acclimation Mil, a.k.a. Sam, the first of her kind to ever attend Starfleet Academy. George Hawkins is Darem Reymi, an aspiring Captain from a wealthy home world. Bella Shepard is Genesis Lythe, an admiral’s daughter determined to make her own name in Starfleet, and finally Zoë Steiner as Tarima Sadal, the daughter of the president of Betazed.
The trailer brings some absolutely amazing easter eggs, and is infinitely pausable. Most interestingly, there is a large wall honoring the fallen heroes of Starfleet. Notable names on the wall include Data, Tom Paris, Wesley Crusher, Tasha Yar and several others. Another moment has Kerrice Brooks’ Sam staring at what looks to be a memorial specifically asking what happened to Captain Benjamin Sisko. It’s a beautiful tribute both within the lexicon of the universe, and from the writers of the show to include these tributes to so many iconic characters of Trek-past.
