'Wednesday' Season Two Conjuring Up Two-Part Netflix Release

Netflix is no stranger to taking the world by storm, but back in November of 2022, the streaming television landscape was hit with a weather emergency in the form of two black pigtails and a sentient hand.

In what felt like no time at all, Wednesday, led by the indomitable Jenna Ortega, dominated the entertainment scene on a daily basis. As new episodes dropped weekly, social media was promptly flooded with fans gushing, theorizing, and experiencing every other general emotion in regards to the various twists and turns taken by that first, uber-popular season.

So, naturally, season two is a big deal… and it’s about to touch down.

On August 6, the first part of the series’s sophomore string of episodes will be released on Netflix. This departure from the previous weekly formula looks to shake things up for watchers that have waited nearly three years for new content. Throughout that period, they’ve maintained the show’s relevance with ample online content and virality. One of the most dedicated fanbases in the industry is finally about to be rewarded.

The season’s second part will follow just one month later, on September 3, leaving a few weeks in-between drops for excitement to rebuild following the extended leave between seasons. This time around, the narrative is expected to take a deeper dive into the familial history of the iconic Addams Family, with Wednesday being joined at school by her little brother, Pugsley. His addition also leads to her parents, Morticia and Gomez, enforcing an increased presence on campus, much to their daughter’s dismay.

Although Wednesday has made a new familial friend in the incoming season to help combat the aforementioned woes, in the form of her grandmama, Hester Frump (Joanna Lumley.) She may be Morticia’s mother, but she clearly shares a greater kin with Wednesday in the early looks and teases, and may provide yet another new interesting angle for watchers to view things through.

“Season 1 really focused on Wednesday, but you met the other characters but didn’t get to know them, and now we get to expand their storylines and expand the scope and breadth of the show,” creator Alfred Gough told Netflix’s Tudum. It’s clear that the creative team behind this second go-around are expanding their horizons in order to bring to light more of the family’s iconic tendencies, conflicts, and dynamics of old.

Although even given this new information, “Nothing is what it seems in Season 2,” according to creator Miles Millar, also to Tudum. Fans have come to expect twists and turns from the series, and that doesn’t appear to be slowing down anytime soon. Much like many other Netflix originals, Wednesday appears to be truly just now lifting off the ground - as the world grows and characters deepen, the series’ insane popularity is only bound to grow.

Prepare for part one to release next month on August 6. Grab your darkest outfit and favorite severed hand; you’re bound to need them on the trip to Neverland.
