'Westworld' Season 3 Episode 2 "The Winter Mile" Recap and Review
After introducing audiences to 2058 Los Angeles in the Season 3 premiere, HBO’s “Westworld” returns to the park for a Maeve centric episode two. Thandie Newton’s all-powerful host was certainly missed during last week’s premiere, and it simply didn’t truly feel like “Westworld” without her. Thankfully episode two more than made up for it as showrunners Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan focused almost the entire episode on Maeve while Jeffrey Wright’s Bernard and Luke Hemsworth’s Ashley Stubbs occupied the subplot for a small portion of the episode. The result was a familiar, yet exciting return to the early episodes of the series.
“Westworld” Season 3 Episode 2 was directed by Richard J. Lewis and titled “The Winter Line.” The episode follows Maeve (Thandie Newton) as she awakens in a World War II-themed section of the Delos Park named War World. She soon reunites with Hector (Rodrigo Santoro) for a daring escape that’s part Indiana Jones adventure mixed with a dash of James Bond espionage. However, not everything is as it seems. Bernard returns to Westworld searching for Maeve only to stumble upon Stubbs (Luke Hemsworth) who *gasp* is a host. As with last week, no one really knows what Bernard is up to, however, he uncovers some important information that leads him on a pathway to Dolores (Evan Rachel-Wood).
Each week on Into the Westworld we’ll bring you our thoughts, insight, and theories behind the madness hosted by Griffin Schiller and rotating guests. This week Griffin (@griffschiller) is joined by film and television critics Zach Pope (@popetheking) and Sharronda Williams (@payorwait).
