After what feels like years of internet speculation, director James Gunn unveiled who’s playing who during “The Suicide Squad” panel at the DC FanDome event. In the video breakdown, each actor gets a title card animated in a comic book style with their names and their character’s names. This introduction is very similar to the way ‘Suicide Squad’ introduced each character but instead of neon lights and a different popular rock song for each character, the footage sticks to one song with more hip hop influence and consistent graphics. Check out the announcement video below:

Originally announced but absent from the panel was director Taika Waititi. It was unclear if the role was cut or just a theatrical surprise for audiences.

Along with the cast roll call video, Gunn dropped a new pulp-art style poster and the team also showed a DC FanDome exclusive behind the scenes featurette:

The footage looks much bigger in scope than the first film showing several clips of what appears to be a massive jungle and beach-based battlefield. Producer Peter Safran says in the video, “ this is a gritty 1970s war movie combined with the brilliance of James Gunn’s characters and comedy.”

James Gunn and the cast played a trivia game after revealing the footage and roles. Gunn answered fan questions and said “The Suicide Squad” has been “the most fun I’ve ever had making a movie.”

The film is set for an August 6, 2021 release.
