'Sing 2', 'CODA' Among This Week's New Trailers

MORE MOVIES HAVE GOTTEN OFFICIAL TRAILER RELEASES THIS WEEKEND, ADDING TO AN ALREADY PACKED FRIDAY OF MOVIE MARKETING.

In addition to the action-packed trailer for “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and the gory tease that was the “Halloween Kills” trailer, three other major trailers were released on Friday: Apple TV+’s “CODA”, Netflix’s “The Harder They Fall”, and Illumination and Universal Pictures’ “Sing 2”.

“CODA” was the Sundance breakthrough that Apple acquired for a record-breaking $25 million. Based on the French dramedy “La Famille Belier”, the film stars Emilia Jones as Ruby, a teenage girl who is the only hearing member of her family in Gloucester, Massachusetts. While helping her family run their fishing business, she also develops a passion for singing in her high school choir. Sensing potential, Ruby’s teacher encourages her to audition for the famed Berklee School of Music in Boston. Now, Ruby must choose between following her passion and supporting her family. “CODA” also stars Eugenio Derbez and Academy Award winner Marlee Matlin, and is directed by Sian Heder. It will be released simultaneously in theaters and on Apple TV+ on August 13th, 2021.

The Harder They Fall” is Netflix’s next western, directed by Jeymes Samuel (also known under his musical stage name The Bullitts) and starring Jonathan Majors, Regina King, Idris Elba, LaKeith Stanfield, Delroy Lindo, and Zazie Beetz. “The Harder They Fall” follows legendary real life outlaw Nat Love (Majors) as he brings his old gang back together to get revenge on the villainous Rufus Black (Elba) who was responsible for murdering Love’s parents. The trailer mixes westerns with Blaxploitation utilizing the latter’s fast-paced and flashy style, while maintaining the crisp cinematography, intense shootouts, and heady themes of the former. “The Harder They Fall” has no set release date, but will likely find its way through the awards season festival circuit before premiering on Netflix towards the end of 2021.

Sing 2” is the sequel to Universal and Illumination’s smash 2016 animated hit, “Sing”. The film features Matthew McConaughey, Reese Witherspoon, Taron Egerton, and Scarlett Johansson all reprising their voice roles, while introducing Bobby Cannavale, Halsey, Letitia Wright, and U2 singer Bono to the cast. “Sing 2” follows koala theater owner Buster Moon (McConaughey) and his fellow animal pals as they take their musical talents to Redshore City. When they realize how hard it is to stage a show full of newcomers, they must find the legendary lion rocker Clay Calloway (Bono), now isolated from society, and - in a riff on “Field of Dreams” - convince him to return to show business. “Sing 2” is directed by Garth Jennings and releases in theaters on December 22nd, 2021.
